Thanks for the tips! We haven't really done any carnivals as a family yet because our children are so little, but I'd love to go on a carnival date with my husband! 😉

My husband and I love the mouse game! The prizes may not be as big, but it's only 25 cents and a lot of fun. I usually bring about $2-$3 in quarters for us to blow on it, but honestly we usually win at least once even with such a small amount of cash. It may not be the same everywhere, but the mice we see at our carnival always look well fed and not mistreated at all (otherwise we wouldn't support it). The games that give goldfish as prizes, however, are a different story. I think our carnival stopped doing that a few years ago but I know some still do it, and it's really sad what happens to those fish after a long day of being slung around in a bag by a two year old in the summer heat.
My family loves carnivals and fairs!! These tips were great. We always giveaway our extra tickets too.

Here's a very important tip when attending local carnivals that will protect yourself or kids. When it comes to face painting, be cautious of the materials that are being used to paint faces. If you see that they are using bottles of Acrylic or Tempera paints, school glue and craft glitter. Those are NOT safe for use on skin and cause serious reactions including burns and permanent branding. Remember that "Non-toxic" does not mean its safe for skin, it means that it won't kill you if you happen to ingest it. Professional face painters will use high quality cosmetic grade makeups and glitters that are FDA compliant and safe for use on the skin. Any reputable painter will have no problem showing pulling up an ingredient list or telling you what brands they use. 🙂
